150 :: Very fine and extremely rare Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner stainless steel gentleman's bracelet watch with the 3-6-9 Explorer dial and pointed crown guard case, ref. 5512, circa 1961, serial no. 764xxx, gloss black 'Swiss' dial with small minute markers, hour baton markers, quarter 3-6-9 Arabic numerals, gilt dial printing 'Rolex Oyster Perpetual 200m=660ft Submariner', Mercedes hands with sweep centre seconds, Oyster case with revolving black calibrated bezel insert, pointed crown guards with screw-down crown, calibre 1530 26 jewel movement, no. 688xx, the inside case back stamped '5512' and dated '1.62' with service inscription date '1971' as indicated in the service log book, later Oyster 93150 bracelet with '580' end links, the clasp dated '1/76', case, dial and movement signed, bezel diameter 40mm - ** Purchased originally in 1964 from Watches of Switzerland Ltd, London on the 22nd December 1964 - ** Complete with the box and green outer cover, Rolex Guarantee booklet and compliment slips. The digital scanned photographs show the original owner, including some wearing he was wearing this watch over many years of treasuring his timepiece - ** The original owner was born and raised in London. During the Second World War (at this time he worked on Savile Row) was seconded as a Bevin Boy and sent up to the North to work in the coal industry. He courted and married a local lady and settled down there, but made regular visits down to London to visit family and friends. As a 40th birthday celebration he purchased this Rolex watch and was proud to own such a beautiful time piece. Which, when he subsequently died it was handed over to his daughter and son-law some 25 years ago by his now departed wife, which has been treasured ever since - ** Gardiner Houlgate sold an identical Submariner 5512 with the same Explorer dial variant in May 2016 for £192,000 inclusive of fees
